I need to read blogs more often! Have you managed to pick up the sequel yet? I wanted to play DOA4 but I couldn't justify the purchase of a system for only one or two games.

You have described one of our work toilets to a T, dude.

And I don't get it, either. First of all, can you really catch anything from a toilet seat? No. And even if you could, why do you have to waste half a roll of toilet paper? Why can't you just, like, squat? And last, you are so 'clean' and hate germs 'so much' that you then leave your unflushed crap to fester in a toilet for the next guy who has to go? How can people live with being that worthless?

i love this post! I AM SUCH AN INTROVERT. "particularly sensitive to interruptions and distractions" = me. "wanting to compose one's thoughts carefully before sharing them" = me. "interacting with other people is draining" = me, me, ME. you, of course, have known this forever. it's not always easy to see oneself clearly.

Rusty, you're, like, clairvoyant. the phrase "(I can't help but wonder who would get to define who are 'terrorists')" is exactly the point... there is an ethnocentricity to American dialogue (e.g., eating sushi today with co-workers, when I spoke eloquently for ten minutes about how the West has been taking a dump on the Middle East since the early 20th century, and that much of the reactionary polemic in that region is a response to being brutally mishandled; I doubt I made a dent) that is impossible to get around. There's this notion that I/America = good/well-meaning/smart, them/Mideast = bad/helpless/unenlightened. One of them said, "But, and the news doesn't show this enough, but a lot of the Iraqi people are so happy we're there." Man, that's freakin' ALL they show. what a crock.

"Here, global warming is understood as a scientific reality and not a talking point to be debated."

Ex-effing-actly, dude. I missed this about Gainesville until my senior year. And I've missed it in every place I've lived since. There's a pervasive backwardness to Orlando, even near UCF where I live. The campus itself is a progressive stronghold, but everywhere around it feels like it (just) climbed out of the primordial ooze — teenagers in white undershirts driving monster trucks.

<blockquote>This parallels my thinking lately. I've wanted an LCD, and a bigger
monitor, but my old 17 inch CRT has always "worked just fine". I don't
know if it's finally getting "old", or if I'm just now noticing it, but it
seems harsh on my eyes, with flicker and whatnot.</blockquote>

I think it's a combination really. CRT monitors especially just sort of dim with time in my experience, but it's also just a mental comparison thing as well. My laptop's screen always seemed bright as hell until Allyson bought a new monitor. Her monitor looked like the sun right up until I brought my new monitor into the house.

<blockquote>So I too am now hunting and researching for a large LCD. I may or may not go with dual screens instead of one larger one, as I had three monitors in
my work environment and quite liked it."</blockquote>

I went for the large LCD primarily because I was going to plug it into a laptop. As a result, I had only one DVI out. I have a dual-19-inch setup at work that's pretty comparable.
