Running

From Digital Alterity Wiki

I started running back at the end of July 2006 following the CoolRunning Couch-to-5K program. It has worked out very well for me. Other than some arch soreness that's probably plantar fasciitis brought on by a combination of weighing over 100 kg and mistakenly running in shoes designed for over-pronators when I myself supinate, I've had no pain whatsoever. In fact, I've found the program to be quite motivating and easy to follow.

Gear

I currently run in a pair of Nike Air Zoom Elite shoes. The shoes don't baby my feet as much as my Nike Air Max 360, but I'm still not getting any arch pain/strain (a common problem I've had with some other shoes).

I always wear technical fabrics like CoolMax when I run. I have a combination of Adidas, New Balance, and Nike shirts, shorts, and socks.

Finding the right pair of running socks has been something of a challenge. I really didn't like Champion's C9 socks, and the Nike No-Show Dri-Fit socks that I tried felt way too big for my foot. Thus far, I've been really pleased with New Balance Low-Cut CoolMax socks, but they're extremely difficult to find in town in my size.

Running Log

I maintain an my running log in an Excel spreadsheet that calculates out my speed, 5K pace, and mile pace based on data gathered from my Timex Speed+Distance GPS watch. You can find a simplified web version on my Running Log page.
